Description

The London Olympic Stadium, also known as the London Stadium, is a famous, modern multi-purpose sports stadium located on Marshgate Lane in Stratford, London. It hosted the opening and closing ceremonies and athletics competitions for the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. After the games, the stadium was refurbished as a multi-purpose stadium and is currently home to West Ham United Football Club. Its current capacity is 60,000 seats.

Construction of the stadium began in 2008. It was officially opened on 5 May 2012 under the slogan "2012 Hours to Go". The total construction budget was approximately 486 million British pounds.

The London Olympic Stadium has a truly unique design for a sports arena. The architectural firm "Populous" and Sir Peter Cook worked on this project. Populous is a renowned American architectural firm specializing in the design of high-tech sports facilities and convention centers, and in planning major sporting events.
