The history of Metallica began in 1981 in Los Angeles, when James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich united through a shared love of British heavy metal. Ulrich's ad in a local newspaper led to a fateful meeting that marked the beginning of this legendary band. At the beginning, the band faced difficulties in selecting a line-up, but soon Hetfield and Ulrich were joined by guitarist Dave Mustaine, who added aggression and technicality to the band's music. Then they were joined by bassist Ron McGovney, and Metallica began to actively play the Los Angeles club scene, quickly gaining a reputation for their powerful and energetic performances.

In 1983, significant changes occurred: Dave Mustaine left the band due to alcohol problems and personal differences. He was replaced by Kirk Hammett from Exodus, who brought more melodic and complex solos. At the same time, the band moved to San Francisco, where they found a more favorable musical environment. Here they met bassist Cliff Burton, whose influence was invaluable - he added elements of progressive rock and jazz to their music. With the arrival of Hammett and Burton, the classic lineup of the band was formed, which many consider to be the golden period of Metallica.

Metallica has long earned the status of one of the most successful bands in the world of rock music. However, their commercial success often overlooks their musical legacy and innovative approach to extreme music. They didn’t just sell millions of albums – they shaped the tastes of generations, set standards of quality and complicated the genre of metal. From the debut drive of “Kill 'Em All” to the symphonic experiments of “S&M”, the band has always pushed the boundaries of the genre and was not afraid to go beyond the usual.
